Literary Portraits
Maud Taber-Thomas creates sensitive and atmospheric portrait inspired by characters from the classic literature that she loves. Before turning to visual art full time, Maud studied Victorian and medieval literature at Bowdoin College and Oxford University. A summer research fellowship studying the Pre-Raphaelite painters helped her realize that she could combine her two interests by responding to literature through paintings. Since then she has painted characters from books spanning centuries, often experimenting with historical painting techniques to better evoke the feeling of the text.
